In January it was that time of the year again: the annual AFRIpads staff outing!!
As always, people get very excited when this day is approaching. As we have our manufacturing process in Masaka, and our sales and operations based in Kampala (a 2 hour drive away from each other) it is always great to have all colleagues together at one spot. This year we went to the shores of Lake Victoria for a full day of games, fun and party!
The day started off with a presentation by the Senior Management Team, to discuss our achievements over 2015 and to look forward to 2016. When it was shared with the team that thanks to their work, 400,000 girls and women were supported with AFRIpads Menstrual Kits over 2015, everybody started cheering and clapping. It is still somehow unbelievable for many of our staff to think that their work directly improves the lives of so many girls and women from all over the world.
After that it was time for games and fun. The 150+ staff was divided in teams that had to compete against each other in various games. Things got really heated up as people were very competitive and really wanted their team to win. The games ended with a fabulous dance competition between the teams and in the end team Red was declared as the ultimate winner of the day.
At the end of the day the whole team was surprised by a performance from Radio and Weasel! They are one of the biggest artists in Uganda, so when the staff realized that they were actually performing at the AFRIpads stage everybody went crazy. The whole AFRIpads team was dancing and trying to get on stage as well, to share some moves with their favorite artists.
It is great to celebrate moments like this. Many of our staff members are girls from rural areas in Uganda. They are already happy to have a job that allows them to support their family and to have a decent life. But to have a job that is not only supporting themselves, but girls and women in Uganda and many other countries who are currently struggling to manage themselves during their menstruation is fantastic. And it is moments like this when we realize why we work so hard every day, and where we can celebrate all of our great achievements!
