In partnership with Barefoot to Boots (BTB), 1,250 girls in Kakuma Refguee camp in Kenya received AFRIpads Deluxe Menstrual kits this past June. Barefoot to Boots is an Australian-based private sector NGO that supports refugees living in camps as well as their neighboring host communities. BTB was started by two bothers and former South Sudanese refugees: professional footballer, Awer Mabil and Lost Boy, Awer Bul. BTB originally gave out football gear in camps, but realized that the significant gap left in supporting girls living in camps. This year, BTB is supporting girls with hygiene kits which includes soap, underwear, buckets and AFRIpads.
AFRIpads traveled with BTB to Kakuma Refugee in Kenya camp to help distribute hygiene kits and conduct education workshops on the AFRIpads Menstrual Hygiene Management Curriculum with girls and teachers. The curriculum includes modules on the menstrual cycle, how to track your period and how to stay happy and healthy while on your period.
